MTN Resolved to Use OPay, Flutterwave, Kuda, Others For Recharge Channels

You'll recall that on Friday, we reported that MTN bars its subscribers from using USSD code for recharging or buying data from banks owing to disagreements between the two parties over commission and service charges.

On Friday, MTN subscribers were stranded due to the disconnection and had to resolve to alternative channels. Here is what actually happened…

According to report from Punch, MTN has 77.35 million subscribers, according to the latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The telco had reduced the banks' commission from an average of 3.5 percent to 2.5 percent which predicated the actions of the banks.

The banks had written MTN to revert to the old commission; otherwise, they would block MTN airtime in all their channels.

The banks, except Zenith Bank which was connected directly to MTN, subsequently blocked MTN from their banking channels, leaving many MTN subscribers frustrated as they were unable to recharge airtime via USSD amid the Easter celebrations.

But MTN has resolved to work with the following alternative channels of accessing their services electronically.

Below is the list and links to access the various alternative platforms

  • "MTN On Demand is on *904#;
  • "Barter By Flutterwave (app);
  • "Jumia Pay (app);
  • "OPay (app);
  • "MTN Xtratime airtime loans (*606#);
  • "Carbon (app);
  • "Kuda (app);
  • "BillsnPay (app and web);
  • "myMTN Web; and
  • "Momo agent *223#
