5 Best Indian Original Series To Watch On Netflix And Amazon Prime Video 2019

For several years, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have improved their selection of Indian original series and films. Both streaming services compete yearly when it comes to the kind of content you and I would appreciate. This is because viewing of video in India is now more common than ever before. In this article, we explore a list of best original series to watch on Netflix and Amazon prime video.

You can buy a mobile-only Netflix sub for Rs 199 in India. And Amazon Prime Video also gives you access to its streaming service with its Rs 129/month (~$1.81) Prime package.

Both streaming services will give you the best of content, however, if you are searching for Indian original series, then we can help you with our list of 5 Best Indian Original Series To Watch On Netflix And Amazon Prime Video:

1. Sacred Games

This Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, and Kalki Koechlin starrer Netflix original has to be one of the best Indian original series right now.

If you are yet to watch it, you need to. Its story is based on a soon-to-happen terror attack in Mumbai, an attack gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Siddiqui) is planning. Officer Sartaj Singh (Khan) is the only one that can prevent the city from getting destroyed in twenty-five days. And Khan has no idea where to start from.

This series is actually based on a novel by the same name.

2. Delhi Crime

This story focuses on the most terrifying and heartbreaking rape incidents in India's capital city of New Delhi, and you must be prepared to get emotional when you watch this one.

It is based on what is known as the Nirbhaya rape case in India. The incident has attracted intense international attention due to the cruelty of the crime, even if several reports concentrated on just the victim and the incident.

Producer Richie Mehta helps to shed light on this by taking viewers behind the scenes of the investigations conducted by Delhi Police. The series shows the bureaucratic pressures, political influences and lack of money as investigations progress.

3. Made In Heaven

indian original series to watch
This is a 2019 fictional Indian original TV series on Amazon Prime Video. Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti are the brains behind this one, with help from the screenwriter, Alankrita Shrivastava. The story focuses on huge, expensive weddings and those that work endlessly to make these events a success.

It is based on 2 wedding planners, Tara (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Karan (Arjun Mathur), who surf through Delhi's rich society to earn big for their wedding planning agency. This show flaunts the wealthy Delhi families and the relationships they form. A 2nd season is in the works so this is a great time to catch up.

4. Leila

This show is similar to the Hulu original show titled "The Handmaid's Tale." Even if it is not a clear parody of the amazing Hulu dystopian drama, it steals a few elements from it. If you watch the 2 shows, you can easily detect what I am talking about.

Notwithstanding, Leila is still unique. Directed by Deepa Mehta, it focuses on a novel written by Prayaag Akbar and highlights the story of a woman called Shalini (Huma Qureshi). Shalini loses the comfort she had in her family life and fell into the totalitarian hands of Aryavarta.

With India's present political scenario, the series is very relatable and also shows a scary futuristic fate that is not too difficult to imagine.

5. Breathe

indian original series to watch
This is an Amazon Prime Video Indian original series and its story is focused on love and desperation.

A dad is ready to go to any length to save his son here. He is not even scared to kill for this purpose. Does the storyline ring a bell? Well, this is because it is the plot of several Hollywood movies, including the popular one Denzel Washington featured in, John Q.

Breathe's protagonist named Danny (R Madhavan) discovers that his son, Josh is dying and requires a transplant. He then works on a plan to make Josh's name the number one on the organ donor list, but his ways are not as straightforward as you might expect. Danny's problems deepen when he starts getting investigated by the police.

There you have it – a comprehensive list of best Indian original series to watch on Netflix and Amazon prime video. If you have other recommendations, feel free to drop them in the comment section below.
