12 Nigerian Startups Nominated for AppsAfrica Innovation Award 2019

AppsAfrica Innovation Awards has made a shortlist of 70 startups for its 2019 awards that will take place in Cape Town on 11 November. Of the 7 nominated startups, 12 are Nigerian.

An annual awards ceremony to honour African innovators in the mobile and technology ecosystem, the event provides winners with industry recognition and publicity. This, as well as networking and partnership opportunities.

This shortlist was selected from over 400 submissions across 52 countries. And of the 400 submissions, 70 were eventually selected, with Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Cameroon dominating the list.

And these 70 were shared into 14 categories namely; Agritech, Blockchain Award, Best African App, Changing Africa Award, Disruptive Innovation, Edtech, Enterprise Solution, Fintech, Healthtech, Internet of Things (IoT), mCommerce, Mobility and Transport, Media and Entertainment, and Social Impact.

The 12 startups selected from Nigeria include: El-kanis & Partners (Agritech), Carbon (OneFi) (Best African App, Fintech), Secureview Limited (Best African App), Flutterwave (Changing Africa Award, Enterprise Solution), 54gene (Healthtech), Helium Health (HealthTech), Trep Labs (Internet of Things), Lekkify (mCommerce), One Kiosk Africa (mCommerce), Awa Bike (Mobility and Transport), MVXchange (Mobility and Transport), and Publiseer (Media and Entertainment).

Winners of each category will get to be invited to the Africa Tech Summit, Kigali 2020, where they will join over 600 tech leaders from across the continent. Here they will have access to sponsorship and partnership from Africa and beyond.

The AppsAfrica Innovation Awards has for the past five years attracted the best of brains from and outside the continent.

Last year for example, it received 300 submissions from startups, established ventures, and corporate bodies from 39 African countries and selected 70 finalists. 11 Nigerian startups were selected amongst these finalists with 2 of them – agritech startup, Farmcrowdy, and Kobo 360 – winning their respective categories.
