Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors: Part 2, Part 3

With more leaks worming their way online, we're getting a clearer picture of what to expect from the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus with an update on a number of spec points.

Samsung Galaxy S8 rumors: Part 3
We have news of the confirmed Galaxy S8 launch date, a clear look at what appears to be an official press image and side-by-side comparisons to the iPhones and previous Galaxy flagships.

Samsung Galaxy S8 release date

  • Confirmed: March 29 as Galaxy S8 launch date
  • Rumored to hit stores on April 21
  • Pre-order from April 10

It's official: the Samsung Galaxy S8 launch date is March 29. Samsung has revealed as much in a new video teaser and invites it's sent out for the event.

The Galaxy S8 launch will happen in New York and London simultaneously, and TechRadar will be reporting live from both to bring you all the news as it happens.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 release date in stores is rumored to be April 21, and pre-orders are currently tipped to open on April 10.

There's typically a one-month lag time between the announcement of Samsung's biggest phones and their actual shipping dates, so that part at least checks out.

When it does launch we know that UK network EE will be stocking it, although as a major flagship we imagine almost every network will in the UK, US, Australia and beyond.

In the US it's been certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC - a government agency), and the filings also reveal that it will be compatible with all US networks.

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S6 on a two-year contract you'll want to hold on to it for a few more weeks instead of upgrading to the older Galaxy S7 - there are phones like the LG G6 and BlackBerry KeyOne trying to tempt you away, but wait and see what Samsung is offering with the S8 before deciding on your new phone.

TechRadar's take: The March 29 launch date is confirmed, and the April 21 release date makes sense since it's nearly one month later.

  • We got bored of waiting so we spent some time creating our own video render – here's how we think the phone should look:

Hottest leaks:

  • Dual-curved edges
  • 4K or Quad HD resolution
  • New 5.8 and 6.2-inch screen sizes
  • Super wide 18.5:9 aspect ratio

There seems to be little mystery about the look of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and its display, as a number of leaked images appear to show the curved screen - likely to be known as an infinity display - in all its glory.

It's big, curvy and you can see it below.

Samsung's also released an official video teaser (below), which doesn't show much, but does highlight the screen.

The implication of the teaser is the Samsung Galaxy S8 will redefine what makes a phone, which in this case appears to be the removal of its iconic physical home button to make way for slimmer bezels above and below a taller display.
